Reports claim 50pc of all AI-generated images on Elon Musk’s social media platform are of adults and children with their clothes digitally removed. Rape Crisis Ireland has called for a total ban on AI-based functions that can produce sexual images of children and adults. Internationally, however, women’s advocates and public watchdogs have long held that social media giants are still playing fast and loose with AI. Despite their insistence that “tech bros” are taking seriously their responsibilities to protect children and non-consenting adults, the evidence does not always follow. Platforms must be compelled to prevent themselves from being used (albeit as unwitting agents) for the harassment, exploitation or long-term harm of children.
