The House immigration petition is out of touch with reality

Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Calif.), left, with Reps. David Valadao (R-Calif.) and Will Hurd (R-Tex.) answers questions about a GOP petition to force House votes on immigration legislation, on May 9 in Washington. They reject the E-Verify and chain-migration reforms that benefit legal workers, discourage illegal immigration and break the endless cycle of amnesty debates. Seventy-nine percent (including 61 percent of Hispanics) support requiring employers to verify worker status, according to a Post-ABC News poll. Even the constituents of Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Calif.) likely prefer the approach in a bill by Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) to Mr. Denham’s no-strings amnesty.
