The Golden Age of Hollywood saw sexism rife in the film industry, a new study has revealed. 'They argue that types of movies being made, such as Westerns, action and crime - caused the decrease in female representation. But the shift to the 'Studio System' era meant that the film industry was dominated by five major studios, these were Warner Bros., Paramount, MGM, Fox and RKO Pictures. Once legal action had ended the 'Studio System' era, actresses gained bargaining power - enabling some to later become producers and directors. Since then female representation in Hollywood has slowly increased, but remains low.
