The Gig Economy Won't Save Workers At $3.37 An Hour

It wasn't so long ago that a co-founder and CEO of Fiverr, a labor platform company, claimed that the so-called gig economy could save the American worker. Drivers saw a median profit, after expenses, of $3.37 an hour while 74% of all participating in the study made less than their states' minimum wage rates and 30% lost money. Are drivers supposed to pile on hour after hour of more work just make the numbers work a little better? Some people might do relatively well in these types of contracting work, but the big bulk of them likely won't. Workers are the ones being expected to save the American economy by accepting below-poverty wages.
