It’s one of the biggest funding rounds in European startup history, and you’ve never even heard of the company. Paris-based starup Devialet announced today that it raised $110M from investors and partners like Foxonn, Renault, Sharp, and French venture capitalists to improve sound everywhere. Devialet’s oddly-shaped but critically-acclaimed Phantom has been for sale in high-end showrooms and in the Apple Store since late 2015. The company is not modest, calling its speaker “the best wireless speaker in the world.” And it has a price to match: around $2,000. The 30-pound wireless speaker puts out an astonishing 4,500 watts with 75 pounds of “thrust force” behind the lateral subwoofers, which sounds impressive.
