JOHANNESBURG—After years of surviving controversy, South Africa’s scandal-plagued President Jacob Zuma is nearing his endgame. Since his ex-wife and preferred candidate lost a December vote to become the new leader of the ruling African National Congress, the 75-year-old Mr. Zuma, South Africa’s president since 2009, has been under pressure from his own party to cede power.
