New York is getting on in years, with residents aged 65 and older making up a record high 16% of the state’s population, according to a study published Wednesday. The number of New Yorkers 65 and over increased 26% between 2007 and 2017, making it the state’s fastest-growing age group, according to the Center for an Urban Future, a nonpartisan policy think tank. Nationwide, 14.9% of Americans were 65 and older in 2017, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
