But there is just something unsettling about the Edmonton Oilers’ first-ever mascot, unveiled on Monday — a lynx named Hunter. The team surveyed more than 2,200 children from kindergarten through Grade 9 to find a mascot that was “approachable and huggable,” according to the Edmonton Sun. The mascot is named after Bill Hunter, who founded the franchise in 1972, and wears number 72.
