Diaspora engagement in Ethiopia has been mobilized through different institutional mechanisms, epitomized by the establishment of the Ethiopian Diaspora Association, the foundation of the Ethiopian Diaspora Trust Fund (EDTF) and the formation of the Ethiopian Diaspora Agency (EDA). The Ethiopian Diaspora Association was established in 2012, serving as a bridge between the Ethiopian diaspora and the government. Diaspora Communities and Ethiopia’s Development AspirationsThe increasing interest in diaspora engagement shows an emerging global development. Indeed, beyond formulating the Diaspora Policy, Ethiopia has been active in extending rights to the diaspora communities. To maximize its impact, diaspora diplomacy should be strengthened with stronger institutional frameworks, inclusive policies, and trust-building measures that empower diaspora communities.
