ADVERTISEMENTI've been hearing a lot about work/life balance these days from corporations and politicians. They didn't care about work/life balance because work was their life, and that thinking was reinforced by the Microsoft review model that rewarded such behavior. One of those items was 'work/life balance'. This is the problem with the work/life balance philosophy. So, while I agree that work/life balance is a good thing to strive for, you must understand that there is a cost associated with it.
