Yemen’s LandracesWhile Yemen does have a Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, its efforts have not been focused on coffee cultivar breeding. The Dutch brought a Typica tree from Java to Amsterdam’s botanical garden, and gave another to the French royal court. First brought to Brazil in 1859, it quickly gained popularity; it was more productive compared to that country’s Typica trees. From here, Bourbon trees would disseminate throughout East Africa, evolving into numerous local iterations and selections.
