The Central African Republic (CAR) has approved the use of Bitcoin as an official currency. This makes it the first African nation to adopt Bitcoin as a legal tender and the second in the world after El Salvador. Bitcoin will thus coexist alongside the regional Central African CFA franc. The bill proposing the use of Bitcoin and other forms of cryptocurrency was unanimously passed by the Parliament of the Central African Republic, according to a statement posted on the county’s official Facebook page of the presidency. The Central African Republic ranks among the world’s poorest ad least-developed countries.
