The Blue Jays offered a similar explanation on Sunday afternoon when George Springer was lifted for a pinch-hitter during the sixth inning of a 7-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves. “No, it was fatigue,” Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said when asked if Springer had a setback. There are logical reasons to believe the Jays brought Springer back before he was completely ready, and their reasoning isn’t hard to figure out. Loading... Loading... Loading... Loading... Loading... Loading...Springer was one of those who returned and, for now, he should be considered day to day, but his official status for the upcoming week won’t be known until the Jays complete a cross-country flight in advance of a four-game series in Oakland on Monday night. Whether it will be equally effective for Springer and the Jays under much different circumstances, or instead blows up in their face, remains to be seen.
