The Major League Baseball season divides nicely into three 54-game segments, but trying to evaluate the first term of this Toronto Blue Jays season is anything but tidy. There was some treading water and then the month of May, in which the Jays were eight games above .500. Projections by Baseball Prospectus’ PECOTA system and FanGraphs’ projected standings (based on depth charts that combine Steamer and ZiPS projection systems with playing time determined by staff.) The Jays are in roughly the bottom third of baseball when it comes to meeting/exceeding their projections. The Jays are squarely middle-of-the-pack in runs allowed, ranking 16th in baseball with 269 runs (seventh in the AL), on pace to allow 726.3 runs; Baseball Prospectus projected 770.
