The Blockheads are set to perform at Carlisle's Old Fire Station

The Blockheads are set to perform at the city's Old Fire Station on Saturday, June 22 2024. The Blockheads were formed in 1977 to promote Ian Durys' album 'New Boots and Panties' on the first Stiff Records tour of the U.K.Chaz Jankel, Norman Watt-Roy, Charlie Charles, John Turnbull, and Mick Gallagher became known as 'The Blockheads', a reference to a song on Dury's album and shortly after as 'Ian Dury & The Blockheads' they went back out on tour. Ian Dury sadly passed away in March 2000, with the band having 20 members throughout its lifetime. Backing up Ian Dury’s lyrics, the Blockheads produced countless hit records such as 'Hit Me with your Rhythm Stick', 'What A Waste', 'Reasons to be Cheerful (Part 3)', and 'Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll', among many others. The Blockheads still boasts over 190,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, with their hit song, 'Hit Me with your Rhythm Stick' having over 15 million streams.
