It's called zodiacal light, and it comes from a huge part of the solar system. So what is zodiacal light? This is stuff that's been there a long, long time, possibly as long as the solar system has existed. That's because zodiacal light tends to be visible along the ecliptic, the path the Sun takes through the sky. You might mistake it for light pollution at first, but you’ll only see zodiacal light if you’re far from cities and under moon-less skies.
