On July 15, the Majestic Yosemite Hotel announced a change that should please all fans of Yosemite National Park's history: the historic hotel has finally earned the rights to again legally use its original name, the Ahwahnee, after a three-year legal battle over intellectual property rights. In 1993, the Yosemite Park & Curry Company, which built the hotel, was bought out by management company Delaware North. While the dispute was underway, the Ahwahnee became known as the Majestic Yosemite Hotel and Curry Village transitioned to Half Dome Village. There are also payments to Delaware North from both Aramark and the National Park Service in undisclosed amounts to cover the cost of disputes arising from the loss of Delaware North's contract.
