The concept of the 15-minute city is a radical departure from the car-oriented mobility formula popular during the last century. Instead of a 15-minute city, most urban Filipinos ended up with a “150-minute city,” with many daily trips requiring over two hours of travel time each way. The 15-minute city makes sense for Filipinos who would gain from the reduction of unproductive waiting and travel times. Interestingly enough, Covid-19 has created a path to the 15-minute city. The 15-minute city will not be viable in places where only the wealthy can afford to live; it will not work where 15-minute travel applies only for the rich, but everyone else still experiences a 150-minute city.
