ExclusiveNewcastle United have been given hope of a “spectacular” solution to one of the major obstacles in expanding St James’ Park. There have been recent talks with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), who will make the ultimate call and decide how the stadium project is financed. The prospect of spades in the ground at St James’ Park or another site still appears some way off, with Newcastle yet to open formal talks with Nexus, the metro’s operators, or brief the body on their plans. “We look forward to seeing Newcastle United’s plans for St James’ Park in due course and we will work closely with the club when they bring forward more detailed proposals,” they said. The club want to double commercial revenue every two years – a challenging target that requires an innovative solution to their stadium challenges.
