Titled “Amritlal Nagar Sanchayan” (Selected Works of Amritlal Nagar), the book has been brought out by the Sahitya Akademi. Last year, there were news reports that a meeting was held at Lucknow’s Awadh Girls Degree College to flag off his birth centenary year celebrations. It’s a happy coincidence that the birth centenary of Nagar and Subbulakshmi will be celebrated in the same year, as they knew each other very well. Nagar is also the only Hindi writer who has written biographical novels on two of the most celebrated Hindi poets – Surdas and Tulsidas. It’s quite ironical that while the government is drawing up plans to celebrate Nagar’s birth centenary, the Hindi literary world does not seem to have woken up to this.
