KARACHI: The Thar Desert, otherwise famous for its frequent famine spells and treacherous weather, boasts a spectacular architectural treasure which authorities are finally trying to preserve. Inside a large room, life-size statues of Marvi, Umar, and his maidservant are erected. A neatly tiled staircase painted in yellow and red leads to a middle-sized courtyard and subsequently to the main temple. Inside the main temple, filled with the musky and rich fragrance of amber, a symbol of “Shiva Ling” is placed in the middle. But it reminds visitors about one of the most illustrious rulers of the Mughal dynasty, also known as Akbar the Great.
