NEWLY appointed Penang police chief Comm Datuk A. Thaiveegan will focus on drugs, gangsterism and other serious crimes to ensure Penang continues to be a safe and peaceful place to live in. Comm Thaiveegan, 58, took over from outgoing state police chief Comm Datuk Wira Chuah Ghee Lye, who will officially retire tomorrow after serving the force for 40 years. The handing over ceremony was witnessed by Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department director Comm Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Hanafi. In his speech, Comm Abdul Rahim said he believed the Penang contingent would become one of the best in the country under the leadership of Comm Thaiveegan. Comm Chuah, who will turn 60 tomorrow, said he was pleased to have busted several drug labs during his one-year tenure as Penang’s top cop.
