Thaiss' first career homer helps Angels top Mariners

The Mariners scored runs in each of the first three innings off Angels left-hander Jose Suarez. Mariners left-hander Yusei Kikuchi allowed just one hit through the first four innings but never made it out of the fifth. Kikuchi walked Dustin Garneau to open the inning and Thaiss then grounded a single to right. Right-hander Matt Carasiti, who has been used primarily by the Mariners as an opener, replaced Kikuchi and walked David Fletcher to load the bases. Suarez lasted 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.
