Texas teen who fell 3,500 feet after her parachute tangled awarded $760,000

Texas teen Makenzie Wethington has been awarded $760,000 after her parachute was tangled upon opening during a jump. When her parachute opened and became tangled, she plummeted 3,500 feet to the ground. The $760,000 awarded to Wethington is broken down into $400,000 for physical pain and suffering, $350,000 for mental suffering, and $10,000 for medical costs. The court said that four hours of training was not enough for Wethington to learn how to properly operate the parachute. Soon after her accident, U.S. parachuting association raised the minimum age for a jump to 18.
