So the ES8’s real competition is the Model X, and that’s where the incredible price discrepancy comes in. NIO has priced the ES8 starting at 448,000 RMB, which translates into $65,880 at today's exchange rates. That compares to the Model X, which now sports a starting price of 927,200 RMB ($136,350) after Tesla’s recent price hike. Both vehicles sport room for seven and the ES8 actually carries a slightly longer wheelbase than the Model X. NIO is only selling the ES8 in China, so the company doesn't have that problem.
