Before the outbreak in Wuhan, half the world’s medical masks were already being made in China. It probably didn’t help that Ottawa sent 16,000 tonnes of gear to China back in February. A New York Times investigation last month found that China had imported 56 million respirators and masks, just in the first week of the Wuhan shutdown. China and its various state entities are engaged in these kinds of propaganda events all over the world at the moment. Last Sunday, a planeload of medical equipment landed at JFK airport in New York, the pandemic’s broken-hearted American epicentre.
