The Westminster attacker used the internet to research Islamic State and knife and vehicle attacks in the year before he killed five people including a police officer. Khalid Masood, a Muslim convert born Adrian Elms, carried out online reconnaissance and browsed YouTube for terrorism videos including suicide attacks before he mowed down pedestrians and stabbed PC Keith Palmer to death on March 22. Masood, 52, who was brought up in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, converted to Islam after being jailed for violence. He had been a “subject of interest” to MI5 but his case was closed in October 2012.
