A 'large meteor' exploded over Siberia causing 'panic' to witnesses in a major city who feared they had seen a plane on fire. The space rock incursion visible from Krasnoyarsk in daylight was described as 'bright and noisy with a long sparkling green and yellow tail'. The space rock split into several parts before vanishing in the sky eastwards over the Irkutsk region of Siberia. Part of this space rock is reported to have landed in the Podkamennaya Tunguska River smashing through 4ft of thick ice. The March space rock is now known as the Tura or New Tunguska meteorite.
