The Secretary for Justice, Teresa Cheng, today hit out at a Reuters news report which said the independence of Hong Kong’s judicial system is under assault from the Communist Party leadership in Beijing, labelling it as “misleading,” RTHK reports. “Nothing gives better than the direct evidence of the Chief Justice himself telling us there isn’t such interference,” she said. Cheng dismissed the report, saying it is not supported on facts. "We hope everyone, together with the Department of Justice as well as the legal sector, will be clear that judicial independence is our cornerstone.
