The Cook Islands was declared to be coronavirus-free after more than 10 per cent of the population tested negative for the virus. A Cook Islands health official has cast doubt on the possibility a Nelson woman caught coronavirus while in Rarotonga. On Thursday the Nelson Marlborough DHB announced a new case of Covid-19 in Nelson, from a New World Stoke supermarket worker, who had returned home from the Cook Islands on March 26. In a report from Cook Islands News, Cook Islands Secretary of Health Dr Josephine Aumea Herman said based on current information it was unlikely the case originated in Rarotonga. “I will be contacting public health officials in New Zealand to investigate any evidence for a link to the Cook Islands, although based on current information I consider the link tenuous," Dr Herman said.
