Tennis: Tennis doubles champ Christian aims for SEA Games glory


Malaysia’s up-and-coming tennis youngster Christian Didier Chin partnered Singaporean Steve Ng Hao Yuan to beat Japan's Kazuma Kawachi-Ryota Tanuma 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 10-3 in the men's doubles final of the M15 ITF (International Tennis Federation) Singapore 1 at Kallang Sports Centre yesterday. Christian is now all pumped up to impress in the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania qualifiers in Uzbekistan (September) and Philippines SEA Games (Nov 30-Dec 11). The tournament is part of the ITF World Men's Tour and offers US$15,000 (RM62,857) in prize money. "I'm happy to win my first ITF men's tournament of the year. Christian, who is of Malaysia-Taiwan parentage, partnered Sergey Fomin of Uzbekistan to triumph in the boys' doubles event at the HCL Asian Junior Tennis Championships in Pune, India.
