KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee needs a breakthrough season from Jarrett Guarantano as the Volunteers attempt to bounce back from two straight last-place finishes in a division loaded with experienced quarterbacks. Guarantano took a step forward this spring while showing his comfort level with new offensive co-ordinator Jim Chaney. Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt added Chaney from Georgia and moved Chris Weinke from running backs coach to quarterbacks coach during the off-season. Mike DeBord was Tennessee’s offensive co-ordinator and quarterbacks coach when Guarantano arrived in 2016. Tyson Helton was offensive co-ordinator and quarterbacks coach last season.
