KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 6): Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said Malaysia needs to rewrite its narratives as it goes through structural reforms, especially amid the current challenges brought about by Covid-19 and climate change. However, much more needs to be done as Malaysia has yet to become a fully developed economy, Tengku Zafrul said, pointing out also that growth had moderated in the last decade. Tengku Zafrul added that there is the “less apparent but equally serious threat” of climate change, noting the floods in several countries around the world and high temperatures in others. Tengku Zafrul said the National Recovery Plan, the upcoming expansionary Budget 2022 and the 12th Malaysia Plan will give Malaysia a new narrative to inspire optimism that the nation will recover and become more resilient going forward. If Malaysians need one thing now, that thing is confidence — the ability to turn our faces to the sun,” the Minister said.
