Ten-man Meralco edges out JPV in PFL

James Younghusband scored the match-winner to carry the undermanned FC Meralco Manila past JPV Marikina FC, 2-1, and stay atop the Philippines Football League (PFL) standings on Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. Head coach Aris Caslib lauded the Sparks’ effort of playing as a team especially when Daniel Gadia was sent off late in the game. “They (Meralco) kept their defense compact,” said JPV coach Dan Padernal, who also paid attention to his team’s height disadvantage. Meanwhile, Ceres Negros FC bounced back in a convincing manner as it thrashed Ilocos United FC, 7-0, at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City. Still winless in nine games, Ilocos United remained at the bottom of the leaderboard with only two points to show.
