Your manager is just as scared to confront their manager as you are hesitant to confront your manager — or more so. Managers don’t necessarily have more visibility into the company’s plans (or their own job security) than anybody else does. Your manager may like and value you, but they will look out for their own interests before yours — that’s business. Just being a manager doesn’t make a person more powerful, and it certainly doesn’t automatically make them feel more powerful.
