An Otago teen armed with a rifle and a spotlight went poaching during last year's nationwide lockdown because he was “bored”, leaving carcasses in his wake. They kept hunting and soon saw a red deer stag in a turnip paddock. Sweeney and his friend spotted another red deer stag on Ramrock Rd as they approached Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin.
