Tech glitch at Adani power unit hits Bangladesh grid

Adani Power's 1,600 MW Jharkhand-based Godda thermal plantDHAKA: Bangladesh's electricity supply Friday came under further strain, intensifying load shedding, after a technical "glitch" shut down one of the two units at Adani Power's 1,600 MW Jharkhand-based Godda thermal plant.The setback came amid the nation's struggle to generate enough electricity to meet demand due to shortages of coal, gas and oil, despite having 136 power plants. Several plants are regularly shut down because of fuel shortages as energy supplies from West Asia remain disrupted due to the conflict there, while others are operating below capacity.While Adani Power refused to comment, sources confirmed a "glitch" in one unit of the plant, which is likely to be repaired within 3-4 days. The problem occurred in the boiler, which may take about 48 hours to cool before repairs can begin, and as a result, it could take several days for generation to return to normal, claimed sources at Power Grid Company and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) - which had signed a power purchase agreement with Adani Power in 2017.
