When management consulting firm Bain & Company studied technology companies, they found that employees at companies like Netflix, Dell, and Apple are a whopping 40% more productive than the average company, with profit margins 30-50% higher than industry averages. There were three things those companies did differently according to the study. What was different was how these star players are deployed. Instead of following conventional wisdom and peppering star players across the company, they identified mission critical roles and projects and filled them almost exclusively with top talent. Here in Asia, I interviewed leaders from some of the Top 10 technology companies to work for in Singapore, and learned that they too have a similar approach to talent.
