British conductor Jan Latham-Koenig was removed from his position as musical director of the Teatro Colón on Friday after being charged with sexual offenses against minors. Latham-Koenig, 70, had been musical director, the highest artistic position at Teatro Colón, since January 2023. The general director of the Colón, Jorge Telerman, had called Latham-Koenig “one of the great conductors of the world scene” when appointing him. He has also conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The indictment in London came during January’s Teatro Colón’s annual recess and came as a surprise to the theater’s authorities, Télam news agency reported.
