Team Wellington have won the battle of the early national league pacesetters with a 2-1 triumph on Sunday. At Riverhills Park in Auckland, Team Wellington's Hamish Watson scored his seventh goal of the season from as many matches when finding the bottom corner of the Eastern Suburbs goal in the 12th minute. There were plenty of other chances in the match, but three crucial saves from Team Wellington goalkeeper Scott Basalaj in the final five minutes meant Watson's second proved to be the winning goal. Hawke's Bay United beat Waitakere United 4-0, while Auckland City eased past the Wellington Phoenix reserves 3-0.
