I was recently invited to be the guest in a podcast run by two enterprising young women wanting to peel back the facade to have real, honest discussions about mental health for young people. I understand these big life transitions are going to be challenging, but talking to these young women, it really hit me that what used to be regarded as an exciting life stage, has become entrenched in pressure and anxiety. Joseph Johnson/Stuff Landmark events in a young person's life, like leaving school and graduating, should be times for celebration and optimism. This doesn’t just apply to young people but all of us, of course. So, let me be clear, perfectionism and harsh self-criticism are the very antithesis of resilience.
