Mathematics teachers have been advised to assist students overcome their fear of the subject by making it exciting, simple and understanding.A Colombia based mathematic teacher, Bernardo Recaman Santos, of the Universidad de los Andes, Bogota, described the subject, which is dreaded by many students, as fun and relaxing. Santos, who majored in recreational mathematics, spoke at the Abuja edition of the Cowbellpedia Academy, organised to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Cowbell and Mathematics. Santos, who further urged teachers to develop the skills of letting their students have new insights in solving problems on their own said: “With my students, we discuss mathematics. We talk about mathematics and we solve mathematics. Mathematics is fun as it can be used to relax and solve problems.
