The teachers also elected Henry Collins Oyoo and Ms Rosalie Mkanjala and first and second vice chairpersons respectively. Traditionally, Knut reserves the chairperson's position for the Western region, the first vice chair for Central, the second vice chair for the Coast and the deputy secretary-general for Nyanza. Mr Oyoo, who had been serving as deputy secretary-general, faced stiff competition from Central, which had held the post for 10 years. The vote involved four regions which sought to fill in the posts of chairman, first and second vice chairpersons and deputy secretary-general.
