The Hong Kong Professional Teacher’s Union urged authorities not to require teachers to get the coronavirus jab for a full resumption of face-to-face classes. In an open letter published by the union addressing the city’s education chief Kelvin Yeung Yun-hung, the union expressed worries that school teachers may be forced to get the Covid jabs in exchange for a full school resumption. “The Education Bureau had previously required teachers to undergo Covid tests for a full resumption of face-to-face classes, which created conflicts in schools,” said Fung Wai-wah, president of the union. The union said they welcome the decision of having teachers included in the priority groups to get the jab, but stressed that authorities or schools should respect teachers’ choice of whether to get the jab. “Not only for teachers, but any groups in our society should not be forced into getting the jab,” the union added.
