Narok Governor Samuel Tunai has said a tea factory will be built along the Narok-Kisii border at Shankoe, Trans Mara West subcounty. He said the factory, which is to be constructed by private investors, will foster unity between the Maasai and Kisii communities. Tunai said the county had acquired a new weighbridge at a cost of Sh12 million, for weighing cane, before supplying it to the Trans Mara Sugar Company. The Governor urged residents to support the sugar and tea sectors, saying large tracts of arable land are underutilised. The governor said there is enough land for tea and sugarcane plantations, urging members of the Maasai community to adopt crop farming to boost their income.
