Hemi Sundgren, who was chief executive of Te Kotahitanga o Te Atiawa, is leaving the post for a role at Tourism NZ. The chief executive of Te Kotahitanga o Te Atiawa is moving on from the role in October. Hemi Sundgren first joined the organisation in 2014 and helped the iwi through the establishment phase of Te Kotahitanga o Te Atiawa, its post-settlement governance entity. Sundgren became its chief executive in 2016 and during his time at the helm oversaw the development of the Ka Uruora programme, which includes financial literacy and pathways towards whānau home ownership. He was described as “a real taonga” by trust chairwoman Liana Poutu, who said he was a highly regarded and accomplished iwi leader.
