Toronto’s taxi drivers are preparing to launch a ‘job action’ in the way of protests on Aug. 17. The United Taxi Workers Association of the GTA ruled to stage the action in a unanimous vote last week. The process will see more than 10,000 Uber drivers get their background checks, along with drivers taking in their vehicles for inspection. The drivers say the city is too slow to enforce new bylaws that came into effect on July 15. Everybody’s got the pedal to the metal,” licensing and standards executive director Tracey Cook told the Star last week.
