Taxi driver files application to delist LTTE from terrorist group


KUALA LUMPUR: The taxi driver who was charged with supporting and possessing items relating to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is attempting to delist it from being gazetted as terrorist group. The 38-year-old accused is seeking for declaration that the LTTE detail in the gazette as null and void and the listing of LTTE was unlawful as it was ultra vires to the Federal Constitution. “We will proceed with our substantive application,” he said when met after the case management before Judge Mariana Yahya. Balamurugan was slapped with five charges of supporting and possessing items related to LTTE in several courts in several states. “Our country still gazettes LTTE as a terrorist group and offence of supporting it is punishable under Section 130J of Penal Code which carries life imprisonment.
