Of course, who wouldn’t want to bask in Florida’s zero state income tax? Californians complain about high taxes even more than New Yorkers do, and some Californians vote with their feet, moving to no-state income tax states like Nevada, Texas, Washington or Florida. Paying high California taxes could always have been a motivation to move. Like other high tax states, California is likely to probe how and when you stopped being a resident. They may have a hard time distancing themselves from California, and they may not plan on California tax authorities pursuing them.
