The Karnataka CID, in the course of its investigation into the Kalburgi murder, had obtained bullets and cartridges used in the murders of Pansare and Dabholkar for comparison. The name of Virendra Tawade, the doctor arrested by the CBI in Panvel on Friday in connection with the 2013 murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, also featured in a Karnataka CID probe into the 2015 murder of rationalist M M Kalburgi. Tawade is an activist of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, a splinter group of the pro-Hindutva outfit Sanatan Sanstha.
